Lexi Jane: 3.5 Weeks New

Lexi,

You are just over three weeks old now.  You love your changing table – Mommy & Daddy bring you in for a new diaper and you lay there so content afterwards. You like talking and making noises – you are getting louder with your talking, and sometimes it feels like you are yelling at us!  You love staying up and sitting on the couch with Daddy & I as we have our date nights.  Our date nights have changed since you were born; we used to sit up drinking wine, talking on the couch & listening to music.  Now the two of us just stare at you laughing at the many faces you make and talking to you until it gets so late that we must turn in.  You have been sleeping in your bassinet for the past three weeks in our bedroom.  Usually you sleep from 11:30-4:00am and eat for 30 minutes and are back to bed sleep by 5:00am.  When Daddy gets up for work you usually lay with Mommy in bed and eat breakfast until we get up just after 8:00am.  Mommy has been enjoying all the sleep you let her get.  My favorite time is the middle of the night when we come out to the couch and it is just the two of us.  Tonight will be your first night sleeping in your room.

Everyone said we would go through a lot of diapers.  The books say between 8-14 wet and soiled diapers per day for breastfed babies.  No one told Mommy & Daddy that we needed to estimate above that number.  Why you ask?  For the new diaper you soiled while we were in the process of changing you out of the dirty one.  Then for the second new diaper that you decided to pee on while we were still getting the second on.  There goes three more diapers right there.  Yes, it really happened sweetie.  Then to top it off, while you were lying on the changing table you spit up on your outfit – so we changed you out of also. There was nothing left to do but laugh!

You spent your first Christmas in Seaside with Grandma Susie, Grandpa Bud & Grandpa Jim.  You slept the entire three hour drive there and back.  You got to meet lots of family and go to your first church service at the Convention center, you were really good & slept on Daddy the entire service.  Everyone there thought you were really cute!  Uncle Jeff was one of your visitors Christmas weekend.  He calls you his little angel after Auntie Deann passed away shortly before you were born.  We were very fortunate we got to spend time with her at your baby shower in October.

We have had many visitors in the past three weeks and adventured out to the store, to the doctor’s office, to Auntie Sarah’s for pictures, and to work to meet all of mommy’s friends.  You have spent a couple of afternoons napping in the office with Aunt Dina & Grandma Fisher.  And a couple of nights strapped into the Bjorn so Tucker could play in the shop with his friends riding bikes.  You have also had overnight guests; Grandma Susie, Auntie Shawna & Cousin Ella, and Aunties Jen & Kristen.

Other things that you love: to have your head and forehead massaged.  To lay in your swing or bouncer chair.  To go for rides in the car or truck.  To have the warm bath water run over your body.  To lay on Mommy or Daddy’s chest sleeping.

You have trained your big brother Tucker who now comes running to your side anytime you whimper or make a noise.  You have such a great big brother, even when he sees that you are sleeping & content he always asks how you are doing.  He can’t wait until you are a little bigger so that he can play peek-a-boo with you and make you laugh.  He’s been singing songs to you, “Baby boom, baby boom” and trying to make you smile with “Bug-a-bug-a-Boo!”  His favorite song to sing to you is the “Boots with the fur.”  Mommy put some cute winter boots on you and thought it was appropriate to change some lyrics to a song.

“Lexi had them Monkey bottom pants (pants)
With boots with the fur, (with the fur)
The whole nursery was looking at her,
She hit the flo, (she hit the flo)
                Next thing you know,
Lexi got low, low, low, low, low, low, low.”

At your two week appointment you weighed 8 pounds and 13.5 ounces.  Dr. Wong said you were a very good eater!  It is hard to believe that in only a few short days you will be a month old already.  It felt like it took so long for you to get here and already you are growing up too fast.

Love you sweetie,
Mommy & Daddy
